The 4th of July is just around the corner, but like almost everything in 2020, the 4th July is likely to look a little different as concerns surrounding the corona outbreak have led to the cancellation of many traditional events throughout the country. But let’s not let the lockdown break our spirit of celebration and the exciting fun that our kids await for the whole year-round. With the celebration limited to the immediate family you can still make 4th July worthy and memorable for your preschool kiddos.
Want to have a fun-loving day along with a patriotic feeling?
Here are a few fun and educational activities that we have rounded up for you to try, in the lieu of regular celebration in past years.
Can’t go on a real campsite this year? Do not Fret, Let’s try a little backyard tent camping and create a cozy picnic atmosphere instead. Combine the camping fun with learning by educating our kids about the importance and reason to celebrate the 4th of July by watching patriotic movies on the tablet before sleeping under the stars.
Have fun by mixing some patriotic-themed mocktails by using the American flag colors and raise your glass to the good old USA. This can be a lesson in density by explaining how ice floats in your mocktails. You can also try baking tricolor cupcakes and stripped theme desserts. The frosting is a perfectly fun way to get your kids in the kitchen.
Spark patriotic feelings in children by playing some patriotic memory games, tic-tac-toe, tossing red, white, and blue water balloons. Star-stringing activity is also a great way to keep younger kids busy; you can give them stickers too, to make flags more attractive. This activity will help in the overall development of fine motor skills, pattern making, color recognition, and counting skills. Make them humm patriotic songs while engaged in craft activities to add more fun.
Decorate your entire house [inside and out with DIY red, white, and blue decorations]. No neighborhood parades? No problem. Decorate your bikes with flag streamer and ribbons and set off with your family for a few casual laps around the street. The fun ride will help to work on everyone’s appetite before you settle in to enjoy a mouthwatering and yummy barbeque.
So let’s make Celebrating the 4th of July with your immediate family at home a memorable experience for our kids and help them to overcome the negative environment that has encircled everyone due to the pandemic. We at the Academy of Living Literacy, daycare in corpus Christi, wish everyone a happy and safe 4th of July.
